He continues to write songs, and keeps working on the album. It's a slow process, as the project has now taken on a larger scope...with as many as 26 songs being considered.

We are adding the lyrics to one of his latest, "Patriots Song" to the site. It will be included on "What Makes A Man", but its placement is undetermined at this time.

As the Sons of the Pioneers begin the theme song to The Searchers (which inpsired the title of Doc's album), Duke stands on the porch, his long journey over, and crosses his left hand over to his right elbow. Most folks have interpreted this gesture as one of respect for Harry Carey Sr., an American actor and one of silent films' earliest stars.

Harry Carey Sr. and John Wayne acted in several films together, and Harry Carey's wife and son were featured in The Searchers. Duke stated that Harry Carey Sr. was "the greatest Western actor of all time."

At the end of Doc's song, "This Old Country Waltz" one can hear his tribute to the Sons of the Pioneers, as Brenna Thomas's beautiful background harmonies close the song, just as the Sons of the Pioneers close The Searchers.

Ken Schoening constructed a full set for the shot of Doc in the famous pose, and took the photo with a blue screen background. Through his wonderful talents, Ken then introduced Ron Niebrugge's photograph of the L.A. skyline to replace Monument Valley in John Ford's final shot in the The Searchers.
